A school intercom is a ten-year purchase priced on a one-year quote. Here’s what the upfront number should include, what costs show up after installation, and how to compare quotes on the same terms.

You did not train for this category. You own network security, infrastructure, the Chromebooks and the Wi-Fi, and at some point the intercom landed on your desk too.

Nobody hands you the intercom on your first day. It arrives later, usually the week it stops working properly. The one failing right now may not even be yours, but whatever replaces it will run on your network, and that makes the next one yours, or at minimum something you will want a strong say in.
